LIBRARY SQUARE CASE STUDY
LOCATION
Los Angeles, California
SCOPE
Designed by I.M. Pei & Associates of New York, NY and engineered structurally by CBM Engineers of Houston, TX, at seventy-three stories, Library Square Tower is the tallest office tower west of the Mississippi River in a UBC Seismic Zone 4 and is perhaps the most prominent office building in downtown Los Angeles. Our initial involvement on behalf of Maguire / Thomas Partners included advisory structural consultation followed by an independent structural peer review of the seismic force- resisting systems using finite element computer modeling techniques to ascertain compliance with client-specified earthquake standards. Subsequent involvement included performing a seismic risk assessment to ascertain compliance with certain mortgage-backed security rating agency earthquake underwriting standards.
